Specializing in Safety at Sea

Sea-Fire is a trusted brand in the international marine fire protection industry. Their products are proudly manufactured in the United States. These products are preferred by the many fire suppression technicians because Sea-Fire products are accessible, affordable, and reliable.

Sea-Fire offers two types of marine fire suppression systems – engineered or pre-engineered.

Engineered Marine Fire Suppression Systems

Engineered marine fire systems are custom built for your commercial vessel. These systems tend to be designed as the vessel is built but can be engineered and designed for older vessels lacking a system or needed a system replacement as well. Engineered systems from Sea-Fire are designed for compartments ranging from 1,500 ft³.

Sea-Fire marine fire suppression systems are safe, and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) approved. These systems meet the needs of, “large pleasure craft, yachts, workboats, marine vessels, and onshore/offshore marine applications (Sea-Fire).” These complex systems come equipped with time delays, alarm sirens, pressure trips, and more. They are customizable to meet the needs of the user – dependent upon the national or international maritime rules and regulations. These systems are tested and installed in accordance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Safety of Life at Sea (Solas) regulations.

Most boat owners will find themselves leaning toward the second type of system. If you’re not sure, measure the size of your engine compartment or any compartments that need fire suppression by using the length, height, and width. Then contact your local fire equipment dealer or Sea-Fire with the cubic measurements.

Pre-engineered Marine Fire Suppression Systems

Pre-engineered marine fire systems are equally safe and USCG approved. Pre-engineered p refers to the amount of chemical agent necessary to extinguish a fire in a certain sized engine compartment. Users select the system based upon their needs, location, and preference in extinguishing agents.

Sea-Fire offers two different types of pre-engineered systems – manual only and manual/automatic.

Manual Discharge Only

These series can only be activated manually – a requirement for some international areas. Cable connects the fire suppression system in the engine compartment(s) to the helm(s). The model number corresponds to the cubic feet of the compartment.

Sea-Fire offers a variety of accessories, depending upon the type of system you choose. These options include early warning heat sensors, cable assemblies, and engine shutdowns

Early Warning Heat Sensors

Much as you imagined, these sensors let you know your system is getting too hot. Sea-Fire offers two types, as well as a carbon monoxide sensor. The early warning heat sensors are required for manual only discharge models. They are also helpful on the manual/automatic systems in case of a heat sensor malfunction on the cylinder or nozzle.

Cable Assemblies

These connect your manual discharge pull to your helm. They must be ordered by the foot. For extra safety, order a fire sleeve too. Sizes range from 6 to 17 feet in length.

Engine Shutdowns

Diesel powered engines require this feature, but it is important that an engine compartment connected to a blower and/or exhaust fan have this component. When a marine fire suppression system discharges, it is critical that the engine compartment be totally shut down and closed. If the hatch is open or the blower is on, the clean agent will not be able to extinguish the fire. Remember, it’s pre-engineered for a certain amount of oxygen.

As you can see, Sea-Fire Marine Fire Suppression Systems are varied and will meet the needs of your vessel. If you are still concerned, call your local, licensed fire equipment dealer to speak with a certified fire suppression technician who specializes in marine services.
