Clove oil

Clove oil is known for its numbing effect and pain reduction. You can use this in three ways. Some like to put a whole clove between their teeth and allow the oil to seep through. Another way is to dab the clove oil on the tender area with a cotton ball. You can also add a few drops in warm water and rinse your mouth with it.

Peppermint tea

When you have enjoyed your tea, save the tea bag. Once it is cooled down to a mild warm temperature, hold it among your teeth, on the painful area. This tea is proven to be a pain remedy and disinfects the area from all kinds of germs.

Vanilla extract

Vanilla extract contains, alcohol and antioxidants. These components cause numbing and accelerate the healing process. You can use cotton balls to dab the vanilla extract on the painful area and allow it to sit for a few hours before rinsing your oral cavity with plain water.

Garlic paste

Garlic contains antibacterial chemicals. When a crushed garlic is applied to a painful tooth, it kills all the bacteria and save your teeth from any more damage.

OTC drugs

OTC stands for over the counter drugs. These drugs don’t specifically require a doctor’s prescription to be bought from a pharmacy. Many pain killers such as the aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen are readily available that you can use for treating any pain caused in an unknown structure.

Icing

Another therapy that is very effective in pain reduction is cryo therapy. If you can locate the exact region of pain, put some ice wrapped in a clean substance to provide enough cold to numb that area. This not only reduces inflammation, it also helps in increasing the blood flow allowing your teeth to fight the infection better.

Hydrogen peroxide

One of the most effective pain management techniques is to use hydrogen peroxide solution. Take a small amount of the powder and make a dilute solution. Rinse your oral cavity with the solution but make sure you don’t swallow it. This reduced the pain instantly and caused a noticeable reduction in inflammation as well.
